The Parents & Friends consists of a small group of parents who meet regularly. The P & F and parents work tirelessly to raise funds for our school. The P & F were very successful in obtaining grant monies in 2010 which enabled the construction of cricket nets on the third level and the purchase of a barbeque, binding machine and a sail for the tables in the courtyard. The P & F hold an bi-annual Bazaar in Term 4 which is the main fundraiser for our school.

St John’s Boundary Fence
The St John’s School Boundary Fence – something that has been protecting St John’s children for over 50 years, has seen many generations of Cobar children from Kindergarten to Year 6, and often later as they walk, ride or drive past, or return to the school for Bazaars or many other functions held at the school. I myself remember playing on the third level at lunch time, in the ‘cubbies’ made from the fence and trees close to it. Something that has been there for so long can sometimes be forgotten, until one day, when it’s said ‘we need a new fence’ and it becomes clear, that it is no longer the strong protecting structure it once was, it is now showing its age with rust and areas that are sagging. Not good enough to protect our children. It has taken many years to fundraise to restore the fence, as it is a massive 411 metres long, and would have taken another 4-5 years of fundraising to have enough to replace the posts as well. We were told that it would cost more to remove the existing posts than it would for the replacement posts, because the original posts were put in so long ago, they were done with very solid posts and very solid cement (no quickset back then!). So the posts have been painted with rust proof paint and the mesh and wire replaced with PVC coated mesh and wire. St John’s P&F Committee 2013 would like to thank all the families, friends and businesses who supported our fundraisers throughout the year, Russell Preece and Ross Davidson for allowing us to ‘take over’ the school for all the events and making sure we were supplied with everything we needed, previous P&F members who fundraised before us and helped with some of our events (as well as guidance), all the teachers and staff who donated their time to help supervise (suppling us with their ‘teacher voices’ that can bring a school hall of noisy children to calm in seconds!), setting up and packing away supplies and pointing us in the right direction for information we needed, Glencore CSA Mine and Newgold Peak Goldmine for donating $5000 each and to Knight Fabrication for restoring the fence to its new glory. I am very proud that this great goal has been achieved and it could only have been possible with the right team of volunteers who dedicated a tonne of their valuable time, and for that I am very grateful.
